UPDATE ON MATT LEONE, BLACK CARDS SHENANIGANS, JIMMY EAT WORLD, MAYDAY PARADE, AND WILLIAM BECKETTS NEW PROJECT
In our last news update we delivered the shocking and saddening news about the senseless assault on Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone. Thankfully he is now on his way to recovery and there has been an arrest made by the Area 4 Special Victims Unit. In another unfortunate twist, Matthew's health insurance had run out not long before the incident occurred and if not for 'Sweet Relief' he and his family would be left to cover his medical costs.
Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.
If you would like to contribute what you can, you can donate and get more information over at Sweet Relief.
Alternatively, you can mail checks made out to Sweet Relief/Matthew Leone Fund to: Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, 4952 Warner Avenue, Suite 235, Huntington Beach, CA 92649
We here at VLS are proud to be working on a possible fund raiser so we can chip in our part. Details will surface soon.
In an open letter to fans, New Yorkers Envy On The Coast have called it quits with their second album merely months behind them. You can read the reasons behind the split on the band's facebook page here.
Anyone who's been anywhere near the internet of late will know about Pete Wentz's latest project - The Black Cards. Samples of the mysterious new band's sound are currently streaming at www.blackcardsmusic.com. With Wentz involved, shenanigans are almost guaranteed so stay tuned for more as it unfolds.
All you UK kids, get excited over the massive tour announcement. Come October, Mayday Parade will be rocking our socks off with their buddies The Maine. Dates are as follows:

BUMPER NEWS UPDATE - THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, BLINK-182, CRAIG OWENS, BOYS LIKE GIRLS AND MORE
Unfortunately, this week's news starts on a somber tone. Bassist Matthew Leone from Chicago band Madina Lake is currently in Hospital following an incident where he was beaten and left unconscious after intervening in a domestic dispute. Leone was attempting to assist a woman who was being assaulted by her partner in the street. His brother Nathan wrote about the ordeal on the bands tumblr (http://madinaswan.tumblr.com) In tragic times like these, the music scene internationally bands together, so I'm sure you'll join us here at VLS in sending all the positive thoughts and love in the world to someone who needs it so badly. Everyone should hope to act so heroic in such a terrible situation. We'll try to keep on top of updates as they happen.
On a happier note, Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 has announced to the world that the band is recording, via his own personal twitter- @markhoppus: "blink-182 recording today. new album type stuff." The vague admission has excited fans that have been waiting for new material since the band's 2003 self-titled album.
In other news from the world of twitter, Pete Wentz has been pimping the newest recruit to his label, Former Chiodos front man Craig Owens. Almost 10 months after he was asked to step down from his duties, Decaydance have finally admitted what everybody has suspected for a long time, that they have snapped up the singer and his new project.
You Me At Six and The Audition have announced Australian tour dates for September. The east coast can expect the larger than life shows on the 24th of September at the Hi-Fi in Queensland, the 25th at Billboard in Melbourne and the 26th at the Metro in Sydney.
The UK aren't left out of tour news either with The Gaslight Anthem announcing they'll be running around the country towards the end of the year. The lucky towns and cities are as follows:

22nd UK Southampton, Guildhall

Tickets will be available tomorrow at 9AM from www.aloud.com so don't waste another minute. We'd hate for you to miss out!
Embarking on a journey 'round the land down under this week are those crazy kids in Boys Like Girls. The 'Love Drunk Tour' kicks off tomorrow in Brisbane and hits every major city. Tickets are still available, so get along in your dancing shoes.
And, just before we go, we thought we'd do you a favour. If you sign up towww.themiracleisnow.com you can grab yourself a free download of the Melbourne based band's EP complete with artwork so tell your friends and get on their bandwagon before everyone else.
